Cee’s Share Your World – May 23, 2017

Cee has interesting questions (again) this week for Share Your World. I’m having fun answering them.

  1. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?

This has something to do with travel. I always want to see the Northern Light. One year I checked the best day of the year to see the Aurora in Alaska, and then checked the airfare. It was way over what I would want to spend. A couple years later, my sister Yolanda and her husband Patrick went to Canada to see the Aurora.  The photos were extraordinary.  When my husband and I watch the nature channels, we discovered that a few other locations are also good places to see the magical Northern Light shows.

In fact, there are six best places to see the Northern Lights in winter. Now we have many options on hand.

Svalbard, Norway

Kakslauttanen, Finland

Jukkasjärvi, Sweden

Reykjavik, Iceland

Northern Canada

Scotland, United Kingdom

  1. How often do you get a haircut?

I like long hair. My hair doesn’t grow too fast, so I may have hair cut twice a year. I trim the bangs every now and then.

  1. In regards to puzzle what’s your choice: jigsaw, crossword, word search or numeric puzzles?

I don’t seem to have patience for puzzle, but I love playing games. My favorite game is Scrabble. My daughter is the only one interested in playing Scrabble with me. We both are very competitive. When my husband and I visit Mercy and Will, they always introduce new games to us. I love all kinds of board games.

  1. How many cities have you lived? You can share the number of physical residences and/or the number of cities.

I have lived in seven cities –

Hong Kong

Portland, Oregon

Seattle, Washington

Alhambra, Monterey Park, Chino Hills, La Habra, in California

Cee’s Share Your World – May 15, 2017

Cee has interesting questions for this week, and I love to share my answers.

  1. How many languages do you speak?

Well, I read and write Chinese. In spoken language, the official Chinese language is Mandarin. I speak Mandarin, and Cantonese is my mother tongue. I also speak a little bit of Spanish. When I worked as school district administrator, part of my job was working with parents. There were many Spanish speaking parents in my community.

  1. What are you reading, watching, listening to, or eating?

My husband and I watch the nature video every night. Currently, we are watching an Ocean series – South Pacific Islands. Last night we watched the part about “Saving the Sharks.” Some villages on these islands make their living by killing the sharks. The Conservation Program works with the village people, created a tourism business to take divers to the ocean to observe and feed the sharks. The villages benefit from the tourism. The Lead for the diving tour is from the village. His job as diving Lead makes three times more than killing the sharks. The program has been working to save a lot of sharks.

  1. What was the last photo you took with your phone?

I used my phone to take the following photo in Kelley Point Park, Portland, Oregon, a few days ago.

  1. What is your favorite time of day?

My favorite time of the day is morning.  When I have the coffee in my hand, walking through my garden and check on the flowers and fruit trees. It’s my time to make connection to the earth and appreciate the life and growth of the plants.

Cee’s Share Your World (SYW) is all about having a safe place for everyone to answer random questions that she posts each week.

  1. Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold?

I can’t live in a place always hot especially when the air is dry. I lived in a dry air and hot area for a few years. Breathing the dry air caused my nose bleeding. After the chemotherapy treatment for my cancer in 2009, I have a new problem. If I were to be exposed to the sun for longer than half an hour, I would get heat rash.

I can’t live in always cold area either. When it’s cold, I tend to stay home to keep warm. I don’t feel like taking care of my garden in the winter, even though there are flowers bloom in the winter, I don’t bother to plant them because I won’t take care of them anyway.

I remember so well of the “Three Bears” story – not too cold, not too hot, have to be just right. I like to live in an area where there are four seasons, and live as close to the ocean as possible.

  1. Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?

I like long hair, about the length of hair I have in this picture. One time, my stylist cut my hair real short. I was upset for a long time, until my hair got longer.

Most of my friends at this age keep short hair because it hard for them to lift their arms up to wash the hair. Somehow one thing good come out from going to the gym is that my muscles are still somewhat strong. I could wash long hair without feeling tired on my arms.

3. What is your favorite month of the year?

I don’t have on favorite month. I have favorite months. My favorite months are:

January – my husband’s birthday

May – Anniversary of my daughter Mercy and son-in-law Will

August – Will’s birthday, and anniversary of my husband and I

November – my birthday; Thanksgiving

December – Mercy’s birthday. Christmas

2017.05.01d4. What is the easiest way for you to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, or in a classroom?

It depends, if I learn a new thing that is technical and complicated, I prefer reading. If I lean to play a new board game, something that I enjoy doing with Mercy and Will, I like to listen or read the general rules, but prefer watching Mercy and Will, and doing it as the game goes on.

Cee’s Share Your World – April 17, 2017

Cee’s Share Your World (SYW) is all about having a safe place for everyone to answer random questions that I post each week.

1. When writing by hand do you prefer to use a pencil or pen?

I prefer using fine point felt tip colored pens. I practiced calligraphy in elementary school with ink pens. I like to coordinate the colors of pens and the colors of paper or cards I write on. When writing on white paper, I use purple or darker lavender colored pens.

2. Would you rather be an amazing dancer or an amazing singer?

I am a singer. I used to be a frequent soloist when I was younger. I still sing in choirs.

3. If you were on a debate team, what subject would you relish debating?

I would debate on the subject of saving the rainforest. The rainforests sustain our lives. The more we eliminate the rainforests, the closer we are killing ourselves.

Cee’s Share Your World – 01/09/2017

Questions for this week’s Cee’s Share Your World are not easy ones, but I will try my best to answer them.

1. If you lost a bet and had to dye your hair a color of the rainbow for a week, what color would it be?

This is a hard question for me. I like my hair as it is. Well, if I lost a bet, then I had to do it. Okay, I would color my hair from dark purple and gradually to a lighter purple at the lower portion. I do have a lot of purple and lavender colors of clothing to match with the hair color.

2. If you could choose one word to focus on for 2017, what would it be?

My choice of word would be “Optimism.” I am an optimistic person, but the focus would be consistent in all circumstances.

3. What was one thing you learned last year that you added to your life?

What I learned was to be happy with my “new normal,” not to let the lymphedema (swelling) of my leg keep me from being active.

4. If life was ‘just a bowl of cherries’… which fruit other than a cherry would you be..?

I would like to be an apple. There are many kinds of apple, and I chose to be a red delicious apple because I like the dark red color and the shape of the apple.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

My husband’s birthday was last week, but he got a cold. He lost the senses of smell and taste. I’m grateful that it didn’t get any worse. He is getting better. I’m looking forward to this new week because holidays are over; my husband and I are back on our workout routine.

Cee’s Share Your World – 01/02/2017

This is my first entry of Cee’s Share Your World. I am to answer four questions plus a bonus question.

1. Would you prefer to receive a unicycle, bicycle, tricycle or motorcycle?

I do not wish to receive any of the above. My husband had three dirt bikes and a motorcycle. He sold all of them when he thought he had enough fun out of them. I took a photo before the buyer came to pick up the motorcycle. He still has two mountain bikes and one regular bike.

2. What is one thing you’d like to accomplish this year?

I will continue to exercise to stay healthy. Will continue to take classes to challenge my mind and learn new techniques in watercolor. I may want to take a Poetry class.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful that I could be with my daughter for her birthday last week. We went out for a nice dinner. For the rest of the week, we are waiting for my husband to get well from his cold, so that we could celebrate his birthday. His birthday is today, but we may go out for dinner this weekend.
