Sunday Trees #288

This is Becca Givens’ Sunday Trees  at  “On Dragonfly Wings with Buttercup Tea”

My entry for the week shows the Jacaranda trees in this 1930 neighborhood. Jacaranda trees are on both sides of Jacaranda Street and Brookdale Street in Fullerton City, California. Every year in the month of May, Jacaranda trees are in full bloom of lavender flowers. The trees are reaching out and touching the branches from the opposite side of the streets and create an arch pathway. By this time of the month, the flowers start to fall, the sidewalks look like a lavender carpet. The neighbors enjoy and appreciate this annual beauty.

Royal Family

The summer of year 2000, my daughter Mercy attended the University of St. Andrews, Scottish Studies Summer Program in United Kingdom. During that summer, there was quite a fuzzy feeling among the students, and a lot of commotion happening on campus. Why would it be a surprise? It would be surprised if no one paid attention. After all, it was more than notorious, a royal family member, Prince William would be attending school at University of St Andrews in the fall of 2001.

It was a wonderful feeling and a memorable summer for Mercy to attend the University that Prince William attended in the following year!

52 Weeks of Thankfulness – Week 11

52-week1

This is the 52 Weeks of Thankfulness – Week 11 at Haddon Musings

My husband I spent Mother’s Day weekend with Mercy and Will in Portland, Oregon. We went to The Salty’s for a seafood buffet brunch on Saturday instead of Sunday.

After brunch, we went to Kelley Point Park and enjoyed our walk in this fresh green park full of sky tall trees. At one corner of the park, we found an old dock with an abandoned anchor.

I am thankful that Mercy has a healthy pregnancy. She and Will are leaving tomorrow to go on a 2-week vacation in Canada before the baby joins their family.

Cirque du Soleil

farce 1

I love to see Cirque du Soleil. They have different themes for shows. One year my daughter gave me a wonderful treat for my birthday. It happened that Circus de Soleil came to town. She bought tickets online. What I was impressed about the show was that there were many farces happening at the same time as the main act. It kept me entertained, and laughing all night.

I think people working in the circus have their brain wired differently!

Heritage 13

Chinese has more than 5000 years of heritage. I am only touching a drop in the ocean. The following photo is a novelty way to represent the structure of emperors in many dynasties.

Heritage 1

Most social values are derived from Confucianism and Taoism. Confucian thought focuses on the cultivation of virtue and maintenance of ethics, and the importance of the family and social harmony.

Taoism is a religious or philosophical tradition of Chinese origin which emphasizes living in harmony. Taoist ethics in general tend to emphasize Naturalness: simplicity and spontaneity. The Three Treasures are: Compassion, Frugality, and Humility.

Heritage 5

The ancient written standard was Classical (Traditional) Chinese. It was used for thousands of years. The modern standard is Simplified Chinese. As for spoken language, there are multiple dialects in different regions of China. The Reformers established a Beijing-based Mandarin as a national spoken language.

The music, dance, acrobat, Kungfu, Tai chi, arts, ceramic, architecture, and cuisine also play major roles in Chinese heritage.
