Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Gardens

Cee’s Fun Foto:  “This week the topic is Gardens.  Gardens comes in all shapes and sizes.  They can be of plants, flowers and vegetables or herbs.”

I include a couple photos of large gardens, followed by my small garden with some of the plants and flowers. There are quite a few Date Palms in my garden. They were shorter than me when I first planted them. Now they are taller than me.

On one side of the wall, you may find some nasturtiums in front of and in between the iceberg roses. By another wall, the bougainvillea plant is in full bloom. My jade plants had flowers for the very first time last winter. Roses are my favorite flowers. Other flowers do well in my garden also. My small garden gives me a lot of joy!

Fireworks

Firework is legal in China. In fact, gunpowder is China’s ancient invention. Fireworks are used as part of the celebration in occasions such as Chinese New Year or opening of a new store business. One of our trips to China was to visit relatives in rural area. My husband and my siblings decided to play fireworks. They spent US$10 and got a whole shopping bag of all kinds of fireworks. The more expensive one was the rocket design with 13 tubes of gunpowder strapped in a hexagon shape.

Upon ignition, the rocket was catapulted straight into the sky so high that we almost couldn’t hear the explosion. My husband was impressed by the powerful display. He was thrilled and played until the last piece of fireworks was spent, because fireworks is illegal in our city in U.S.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Street

Frank’s theme this week is Street.

When I first watched the movie “The Italian Job,” those narrow streets fascinated me. I was so impressed by the drivers maneuvered the Mini Coopers through those narrow streets.

Our trip to Spain allowed me to visit those narrow streets. Some streets did have cars going up and down, except that the pedestrians must be very attentive when cars going through.

This street took us to The MosqueCathedral of Córdoba also known as the Great Mosque of Córdoba.

In Valencia, we had an afternoon free. We were roaming on the street to find a restaurant for an early dinner.

street 6

We were on this street before visiting the Cave Houses – houses that are constructed inside of caves.

Cee’s Share Your World – May 23, 2017

Cee has interesting questions (again) this week for Share Your World. I’m having fun answering them.

  1. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?

This has something to do with travel. I always want to see the Northern Light. One year I checked the best day of the year to see the Aurora in Alaska, and then checked the airfare. It was way over what I would want to spend. A couple years later, my sister Yolanda and her husband Patrick went to Canada to see the Aurora.  The photos were extraordinary.  When my husband and I watch the nature channels, we discovered that a few other locations are also good places to see the magical Northern Light shows.

In fact, there are six best places to see the Northern Lights in winter. Now we have many options on hand.

Svalbard, Norway

Kakslauttanen, Finland

Jukkasjärvi, Sweden

Reykjavik, Iceland

Northern Canada

Scotland, United Kingdom

  1. How often do you get a haircut?

I like long hair. My hair doesn’t grow too fast, so I may have hair cut twice a year. I trim the bangs every now and then.

  1. In regards to puzzle what’s your choice: jigsaw, crossword, word search or numeric puzzles?

I don’t seem to have patience for puzzle, but I love playing games. My favorite game is Scrabble. My daughter is the only one interested in playing Scrabble with me. We both are very competitive. When my husband and I visit Mercy and Will, they always introduce new games to us. I love all kinds of board games.

  1. How many cities have you lived? You can share the number of physical residences and/or the number of cities.

I have lived in seven cities –

Hong Kong

Portland, Oregon

Seattle, Washington

Alhambra, Monterey Park, Chino Hills, La Habra, in California

100 WW: Week 19 – Expectation

100WW_W19.jpg

Where is he? We are supposed to meet at six this evening.

I went to his nephew’s birthday party at his house last night. His mom was there. His five siblings, spouses, and their kids; aunts, uncles and friends were all over the house.

They were laughing and talking with each other. I was the only stranger. No one came to talk to me. I didn’t know how to break the ice.

My family has mom, pop, little brother and I. How should I have mingled with large family?

I want to talk about what his family expects of me!

Letter in the Bottle

bottle 4

This is my first attempt to write a Pantoum Poem
I want to thank Teresa Baker at https://theresabarkerlabnotes.com who encouraged me to try different Poem Form. I found one example from the link below and followed the pattern to write today’s poem.

A letter in the bottle

Left adrift aimlessly in the sea

Vessel reaches the shore one day

After floating miles away

~

Left adrift aimlessly in the sea

Sparks echo the sunbeams above

After floating miles away

A tug in a wandering heart to read

~

Sparks echoes the sunbeams above

A gentle soul gazes the glittering sea

A tug in a wandering heart to read

The message seeks to convey

Vessel reaches the shore one day

The message seeks to convey
